Joey Totes Review and Giveaway

The 39th annual Earth Day has come and gone and my naked celebration of dancing in the garden is over. I'm kidding, of course- sheesh, I wear an organic tutu during the dance.

Really, for me Earth Day is simply a reminder to be conscious of the choices I make every other day of the year. I don't celebrate by slashing the tires of Hummers or dancing naked (as much as I might like to do both at times). While I try to live an "eco-friendly" life style, I know I am absolutely no Ed Beagly Jr. I love Diet Coke and would never consider living without some form of air conditioning. So I try to alleviate some of my air-conditioning induced guilt by changing other habits.

The one way I can honestly say I have shown improvement is in the plastic bag department. I try to always carry a reusable bag in my car or purse, and if I don't have one handy I opt to go without a bag when possible. It is a small change, but just one of many simple things I know I can do.

Over the past year I have used many a reusable bag- everything from the 99 cent Walgreens totes to the more expensive canvas bags. I have also torn and destroyed several reusable bags simply from overuse. Those flimsy (and cheap) Walgreens bags really are reusable for only so long, which sort of defeats the purpose.

So I was thrilled to discover the best reusable bags I have ever owned, Joey Totes.

Joey Totes have every single feature I could ask for in a reusable bag:

  • They come in 2 sizes, because you don't always need a huge bag
  • They have their own convenient storage bags. The bags have a pocket sewn into the liner, and the whole bag fits in the pocket for easy storage. I carry them in my purse with no problem at all.
  • They are sturdy- made from nylon and designed to hold up to 40lbs.
  • They're washable.

Joey Totes really make the one act of carrying reusable bags effortless and sensible. I have had these totes for one week and have used them at least 5 times because they are already with me in my purse.

A large Joey Tote can be purchased on their site for $8.50. You can also buy them in sets of three; 2 small 8" x 4" totes and 1 large 9.5" x 5" tote for $14 or 2 large totes and 1 small tote for $20. A bit more than the 99 cent or freebie reusable bags but totally worth it considering they promise to keep your milk and oranges off the sidewalk unlike some of the bags I have used.

If you buy a set of Joey Totes by May 31st you can get 10% off using a very special code just for my readers. Just type in "I Like Green" (case sensitive, no quotes) in the coupon code at checkout. I personally think these would be a very sensible Mother's Day gift, and when it comes to gifts my Mom adores sensible.

Kate and Chris, the awesome owners of Joey Totes, are also offering one set of totes to my readers! So enter to snag your own set:

I do use reusable bags. I love them! They are better for the earth, obviously, and I can fill one reusable bag with items that would fill 3 plastic bags.

I do reusable bags...in fact I recently banned plastic bags from my house! I've spent the last few months gathering up enough totes so I could kick plastic to the curb! And Earth Day was my day to do it! I love my totes! I also have one of a nylon type with a pocket inside so it stores itself. Its so handy in my purse!
Thanks for the chance to win more!

I use re-usable bags because I live in New York and don't have a car, which means carrying all my stuff back from the store. Lugging something on my shoulder is so much easier than the plastic cutting into my hand from throw-away ones. But these Joey Bags sound great and I'll look into them contest or not - because sometimes I make an unplanned purchase w/o having a tote with me. Thanks for the tip!

I try to use reusable bags, especially for lunch. But when I go to the grocer's, I don't have enough reusable bags to hol all my grocery....which is a bad thing, but I opt for recycled paper bags instead of plastic bags. hopefully this habit will change in the near future!

I don't use reusable bags. I know I should but I guess it makes me a little uncomfortable carrying around extra bags, and I don't know how to make the baggers use them instead...bad reasons, I know.

But if I'm only getting a few items, I don't use any bags:)

thanks so much...I promis I would use these- they come with carrying bags!yayy!!

I use reusable totes. Last night I saw Joey totes at Mustard Seed Market and I was tempted to buy them. But since I'm going to win them here, I didn't. We carried our stuff to the car in our hands last night because we forgot to take our bag in with us. It just seemed better than taking a plastic bag. Funny how I look at those things so differently now.

I carry reusable bags because plastic bags are crap - and they do no good.

I started using reusable totes when I would go to SAMS club because they never had any boxes. I now keep them in my car all the time and they work great for grocery shopping too.

I have reusable bags! I knit or crochet (crochet feels a little sturdier in my opinion) them up from old plastic bags that I've cut into strips. They're fun to make, hold a lot, and so far haven't broken on me! Plus, all of those plastic bags which inevitably end up in your house no matter how hard you try will not go to waste.

I would like to use reusable bags, but I don't have any. I do try to use paper so I can reuse them and then recycle them. I would love these reusable bags!

I am just starting to use reusable totes when buying groceries and smaller items as well. If I forget to take them I find many other uses for the plastic bags before ever disposing of them.

Well, I don't use reusable grocery bags for a few reasons. I buy so many groceries at one time that I think I'd need SO MANY bags, I'd hate to buy them all. I'm also afraid that I'd forget to put the bags back in my car and wouldn't end up using them even if I did buy them. (The Joey Totes sound great because they can go right back in my purse...) I DO reuse the plastic grocery sacks as trash bags and any other use I can think of.

Thanks for running this giveaway!

Reusable bags are pretty new to me, but I love them! They hold so much more than the flimsy plastic bags and I don't feel like they're going to break getting them to the car or into my house. And I honestly feel like I'm doing something good for the environment.
Thanks for the giveaway~

We don't use reusable bags. While I agree in taking care of the planet I don't believe in the whole carbon footprint and global warming. I do however, reuse paper bags to rebag at the grocery store next time and reuse plastic shopping bags.
